Settlement is the process of determining the official result of a bet from the final outcome of the event.
In plain English
It sounds mechanical and often is not. Scores get corrected, feeds disagree, and games get abandoned, so a settlement needs a stated source and method to be checkable.
Example
A pick recorded as won after the final score is confirmed against an authoritative source.
Why it matters
If settlement is not documented, a published record cannot be independently reproduced.
